Why I Don’t Homeschool

(A tongue in cheek look at homeschool misconceptions)

I don’t homeschool because I dislike public school. I love learning. When I tell people that we home educate, some assume that I hate public school. That isn’t true. I think there are pros and cons to every available education method – public, private, charter, homeschool etc. I don’t think there is a one-size-fits-all form of education on the planet. We homeschool because it is the best choice for our family right now.

I don’t homeschool because I think I am better than you. Again, sometimes Moms who choose to send their kids to public school think I am judging their choice. No way! Being a Mom is hard work! And we all do what we think is best for our kids. No judgement here 🙂

I don’t homeschool because I am a saint. One of the most common responses I get when I tell people we homeschool is, “I could never do that! I just don’t have the patience!” Let’s be real: Some days I don’t either. I don’t have some superpower that allows me to stay calm and collected when all four of my kids are having meltdowns or tantrums or pre-teen hormonal rages. Sometimes I need a break, and you know what? I take one 🙂

I have many reasons we DO homeschool. I will share those in another post.
